Newcastle Blue Star are set to play their first game at the KD Stadium in over two weeks as they take on Penrith this Saturday.
Last time it was a five-goal thriller as Blue Star won 3-2 thanks to a Dan Lanning brace, and since then both teams’ seasons have gone on different paths.
Today I will be selecting three key players from Penrith for Blue Star to keep a close eye on.
Luke Hunter - Forward
Hunter is known as tricky and pacey attacker who can be dangerous if a team plays a high line.
So far this season Hunter has got nine goals in all competitions to help Penrith to some crucial victories including a 5-2 victory against Newcastle Benfield earlier in the season.
If Blue Star want to continue their push for promotion, it’s important for them to not give Hunter the space to run in behind as he can be clinical.
Conor Hammell – Winger
Blue Star fans will know who Hammell is as he scored the first goal in the reverse fixture all the way back in September.
Hammell can play anywhere across the front line which makes him an unknown to defenders as they can’t quite predict where he will be playing.
Although Hammell doesn’t always pop up with a goal, but he is no stranger to an assist creating the most goals in the Penrith team this season.
Daniel Hopper - Forward
Hooper is the most inform attacker for Penrith now but offers physicality rather than pace and can be affective from corners.
Blue Star will need to make sure they tightly mark him at set pieces to get the victory. Hooper got a brace in Penrith last win as they beat Carlisle City 2-1 on the 6th January.
A victory for Blue Star will strength their promotion push and put them back into the playoffs places, as for Penrith they are sitting dead in midtable and victory will strengthen their grip on the 15th position.
