Newcastle Blue Star vs West Allotment Celtic (13/08/2024)

The one negative of playing fixtures at this time of year is that there is little rest between the weekend and midweek action. The one positive of playing fixtures this time of year is that there is a quickfire opportunity to right previous wrongs.

This means after Newcastle Blue Star suffered a home defeat at the hands of Guisborough Town on Saturday, manager Marc Nash and his players will look to turn their own recent negative into a positive themselves.

A negative that came about through a combination of being punished at the back but also being punished by not taking their chances at the other end of the field. In fairness to the Guisborough Town goalkeeper it would also be unfair to not offer him some plaudits.

On a rather hot day in NE15 it was one of those days where try as you might, an opposition keeper is simply not going to wilt in the summer sun. Their keeper stood imperious between the sticks and played a substantial part in the visitors earning three points.

Now though the focus quickly pivots to the visit of West Allotment Celtic and although Blue Star ended last week empty handed, they still begin this week lying in the top eight of the Northern League Division One table.

Eighth to be precise and with two wins and as many defeats from their first four league games of the campaign, the Scotswood outfit are quickly learning what this new level of football is all about and the subsequent challenge that it brings.

Of course, there is also Emirates FA Cup action to plan for in a few days’ time and although Blue Star will certainly be up for the cup on Saturday, they cannot place focus on their clash with North Ferriby too early.

Tuesday’s opponents West Allotment Celtic picked up their first league win of the season on Saturday, as they edged past North Shields by three goals to two on home soil and will be keen to build on that positive performance.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting West Allotment Celtic team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
