A deluge of rain foiled Newcastle Blue Star’s attempt to host Carlisle City on Tuesday and although it is always frustrating to lose out to the weather, a few days additional rest is not something to be turned down at this stage of the campaign.
As we say goodbye to summer and hello to the autumn conditions, manager Marc Nash will also be hoping to say hello to a number of players who have been on the treatment table as of late.
However, those who were fit and available more than held their own against Boro Rangers last Saturday - a side that currently finds itself placed second in the Northern League Division One table, in what was a highly entertaining six-goal thriller.
An encounter that had plenty of ebb and flow throughout and one that would see an equal share of six goals leading to a share of the points. However, that parity did not look like being registered with just seconds remaining.
Little time left on the clock with Blue Star finding themselves 3-2 behind but just enough as far as Sean Reid was concerned and with Tolu Osiyemi making a habit of causing opposition defenders issues in their penalty area, the forward’s endeavour was rewarded with another spot kick.
Once again the combination of Osiyemi earning it and Reid slotting away was a positive one and with that being the literal last kick of the game, it was a positive response after suffering a shock defeat at home to Tow Law seven days prior.
Now after such an impressive display and the enforced ability to recharge their batteries, manager Nash and his players will welcome Northallerton Town through their Scotswood doors on Saturday.
The visitors arrive here five places behind Blue Star and four points off their pace but after only losing by a single goal to league leaders Redcar Athletic last Friday, they will be keen to build on such a solid showing even if there was nothing to show for it in terms of points.
Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Northallerton Town team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
