Newcastle Blue Star vs North Shields (10/09/2024)

Although Newcastle Blue Star managed to make it an unbeaten league week on the road, Friday's draw at Birtley may arguably feel like two points dropped.

On the one hand, a 1-1 draw with only 10 Blue Star players remaining on the field - one of those seeing a forward go in goal for the majority of the second half, could be construed as a solid point under the disciplinary circumstances.

On the other, wasted chances when both Birtley and Blue Star had numerical parity on the field of play, feels like opportunity missed if you are Marc Nash and his management team.

The chance to build a head of steam dampened by the recent draw that followed last week's win at Seaham and subsequently further progress up the Northern League Division One table being halted for now

However, Tuesday sees another opportunity to put league points on the board and this time in front of Blue Star's feverish Scotswood support when at home to North Shields.

Two teams that have an interlinking when it comes to recent history but also two teams that have already met this season, with an FA Cup clash already in the history books.

That summer afternoon saw North Shields go ahead at their Daren Persson Stadium, only for the visitors to use their heads not once but twice on the way to winning the club's first ever FA Cup game in its modern iteration.

Now though, it is not only a modicum of revenge that Tuesday's opponents will want to exact but also an opportunity to build a launchpad for their own season.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting North Shields team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
