Newcastle Blue Star vs Guisborough Town (10/08/2024)

As the fixture computer makes best use of the late summer conditions, it means another quick turnaround for Newcastle Blue Star and no sooner are they cooling down after activity in midweek, are they soon preparing for another league outing at the weekend.

While Blue Star find themselves cooling down after being red hot at West Auckland on Tuesday night. Buoyed by success in both league and cup in the seven days prior to their trip to Darlington Road, they would make light work of their opponents after a resounding 5-1 away win.

Not only is a result of such magnitude pleasing to see but even more so at such an early stage of the league campaign. To further enhance how impressive Tuesday’s win over West Auckland was, our midweek hosts finished fifth in last season’s Northern League Division One.

Of course, every club’s tally resets to zero at the start of a new league campaign and although you cannot read too much in the league table so early into proceedings, Marc Nash’s men do start the weekend lying fifth in the table.

Five goals on Tuesday, fifth in the table but it is not about simply stopping on the fifth rung of the league ladder, it is about trying to climb as high as possible and as captain Connor Oliver said after the 5-1 win, “that victory sends out a message to the rest of the division”.

A message that could have been even louder had the West Auckland goal frame not lived such a charmed life and were it not for the woodwork being clattered on a number of occasions, five could have been six or maybe seven.

Then again, you can only revel in the triumph of an emphatic win for so long and with Guisborough Town coming to Scotswood on Saturday, it is Blue Star’s duty to make sure that the message to the rest of the division does not become quieter by the time the week comes to an end.

As for the visiting Guisborough Town side, it was Emirates FA Cup and not Northern League duty in midweek and after drawing with Kendal at the first attempt, their second attempt saw them on the wrong side of the replay’s 2-1 scoreline.

Out of the greatest cup competition in the world and currently with three points to their name in the Northern League Division One table. An opening weekend win at Northallerton was then followed by another reverse at the hands of Kendal. Now though, they will be keen to return to winning ways.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Guisborough Town team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
