Newcastle Blue Star vs Easington Colliery (24/08/2024)

For those who feel the magic of the FA Cup is no longer with us, they obviously were not at The Dransfield Stadium on Tuesday. North Ferriby’s home ground serving as the venue for an incredible evening of cup action.

An incredible evening and one that can be considered an upset of sorts as Newcastle Blue Star’s Step 5 stars got the better of North Ferriby who operate at Step 4 and of course, four was very much the magic number for Marc Nash’s men.

After finding themselves two goals down at the interval, it must have been one hell of a team talk from manager Nash during the break. The next 45 minutes were everything that sums up this Blue Star team.

Attributes such as heart, desire, never giving up, all within the Blue Star DNA and all playing a part in the visitors restoring parity in the second half. Two goals each with an additional 30 minutes to play after the regulation 90 had been contested.

Now a question of who wants it the most and with the hunger that Blue Star showed in order to get back into the game, there was only ever one team that was going to have the answer. Two further goals in extra-time equalling further progress in this season’s FA Cup.

The reward is another home cup tie against Hallam at the end of the month but before they welcome the Sheffield-based outfit to NE15, Scotswood’s finest have two home games in two different competitions to first contend with.

Saturday sees this season’s FA Vase get underway and after being paired with rivals Easington Colliery, it is another chapter in the storied history that has quickly been penned between the two outfits.

Last season saw league wins swapped on enemy territory before Easington also captured promotion play-off glory at Scotswood. However, the two teams are once again at the same level this time around and Blue Star have already earned the bragging rights within the Northern League.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Easington Colliery team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
