After being afforded the luxury of a full week’s rest, Newcastle Blue Star were back in action at the weekend and their trip to Boro Rangers was one that went down to the very last second of the game.
Behind at the interval by a single goal, Marc Nash’s men found themselves a goal to the good themselves soon after the break. A quickfire double after goals from Nathan Kidd and Sean Reid turning the game on its head.
However, that was not the only swing of last Saturday’s footballing pendulum and with the hosts then finding a quickfire brace of their own through Daniel Lofts, it left Blue Star with very little time to get back into the game once again.
Little time but just enough as far as Sean Reid was concerned and with Tolu Osiyemi making a habit of causing opposition defenders issues in their penalty area, the forward’s endeavour was rewarded with another spot kick.
Once again the combination of Osiyemi earning and Reid slotting away was a positive one and with that being the literal last kick of the game, it was a positive response after suffering a shock defeat at home to Tow Law seven days prior.
A positive for not only that reason but also because Boro Rangers started the game sitting second in the Northern League Division One table and even though Blue Star’s injury list seems to be getting longer rather than shorter at present, those involved more than held their own throughout.
Now this youthful Blue Star outfit will return to their Scotswood home on Tuesday and with another of their handful of games in hand being contested against Carlisle City, the aim will be to put the game in hand to good use.
Especially as Blue Star currently find themselves sitting eighth in the table before their midweek action and although victory would only move them up a single position in the short-term, it would do their long-term hopes of a top five finish no harm at all.
As for opponents Carlisle City, they arrive in NE15 having suffered defeat to struggling West Allotment Celtic at the weekend but a win for them would see them surge up table and make further inroads on the play-off pack.
Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Carlisle City team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
