Newcastle Blue Star v Wallington (17/08/2022)

Three games, nine points, six goals scored, and none conceded. That is the tale of the Blue Star tape as they prepare for their fourth league encounter in just two weeks and although the weather may have dipped in temperature, this new Northern Alliance season is only heating up.

Heat that the Blue Star players expertly dealt with on both Wednesday and Saturday of last week and after edging past AFC Newbiggin three days prior, they then placed three unanswered goals past Winlaton last weekend.

Which means Brian Smith’s men now find themselves as one of just two remaining teams with a perfect start to the campaign and with this, both Burradon & New Fordley and Blue Star have the maximum nine points to their name.

Whether this is the table already beginning to take shape for the season ahead, only time will tell and if the challenge of Wallington can be dealt in the same fashion as the previous three, it will only further the momentum that is being built in Scotswood.

As for Wallington, they have had something of a mixed start to the campaign and after suffering an opening weekend defeat at the hands of Newcastle Independent, they then followed up with a win over Alnwick Town and a draw with Newcastle Chemfica.

Which means if they are to get anything from Wednesday’s encounter, they may have to do what nobody has yet to manage this season and that is breach what has quickly become an impenetrable Blue Star defence.

One that has not only created a rigid platform at the back to build from but has also added confidence to those players who are tasked with going forward. With security comes confidence and the attack is only gaining more of this, as was seen during the win over Winlaton.

Which sets up Wednesday’s clash rather nicely indeed. A warm welcome goes out to the travelling Wallington players and support and for those who are planning to cheer on the home team, make sure to lend your voice from minute one to minute ninety.
