2024 has been a happy new year for Newcastle Blue Star thus far and after beginning January with a 2-0 home win over Prudhoe YC, it was soon followed up by a resounding 5-0 win on the road three days later.
Billingham Town playing the role of hosts in midweek and by the end of the game, they may have wished they never opened their doors. Marc Nash’s men not only beginning to find their feet as a collective but now also going up through the gears.
If victory over Prudhoe YC was a platform in which to build from, Blue Star certainly brought the necessary tools on Tuesday night. Five goals at one end is always going to be a pleasing sight, a second successive clean sheet perhaps even more so.
The first two legs of this busy January schedule have been dealt with in ideal fashion and with the way the race for the title is going, you get the feeling that the rest of this month will have to be near perfect from a Blue Star point of view.
As tempting as it is to look at results elsewhere, the focus for Nash and his players will only be fixed on this coming Saturday. With two wins from two, all involved have a taste for victory and are certainly hungry for more.
Standing in their way of three more points are Saturday’s opponents Jarrow. They arrive in Scotswood sitting midtable but have plenty of games in hand over their rivals and upward mobility is certainly on the agenda for the second half of the campaign.
While Blue Star’s Northern League Division Two journey started in Jarrow last July, as they just edged out a five-goal thriller to get off to the perfect start – victory that was all the more impressive after playing the last half hour with just 10 men.
Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Jarrow and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
