Kendal Town vs Newcastle Blue Star (29/03/2025)

Less than a month of the season remains and the twists and turns that await the Northern League’s promotion hopefuls are ready to cause delight and anguish in equal measures.

With only four scheduled games of the campaign to go, Newcastle Blue Star start their sprint on Saturday.

While they do so against opposition that will be rather familiar and after only hosting Kendal Town at the KD Stadium just over a week ago, Marc Nash’s men will now look to compete a quickfire double over an outfit that also harbours playoff aspirations.

Aspirations that would have taken a dent after suffering 1-0 away defeat at Blue Star but aspirations that would have been given a boost after last weekend’s results – a combination that certainly worked in Kendal’s favour.

Saturday’s hosts picking up a hugely important win against North Shields, Saturday’s visitors being held to a frustrating goalless draw at Northallerton Town and in doing so, dropping two crucial league points in the process.

However, Blue Star’s inability to break Northallerton’s resolve last Saturday has largely gone unpunished and with Boro Rangers also dropping points in the same North Yorkshire location on Tuesday, manager Nash and his players still find themselves lying fourth in the table.

Two places better off than the team that welcomes them in just a few hours but more importantly five points clear and if the Scotswood outfit can pick up maximum points on their travels, they would inch even closer to a guaranteed playoff spot.

However, last weekend reminded those in attendance that there are far from any guarantees at this level and although plenty of eyes will be on events at Town Moor this weekend, those left will be fixed on the events that unfold at Parkside Road.

Something which sets up this clash rather nicely indeed. A big thanks to Kendal Town for the upcoming hospitality and for those attending from an away perspective, safe travels both there and back.
