Crook Town vs Newcastle Blue Star (16/10/2024)

After a few days unplanned rest, Newcastle Blue Star were back in action on Saturday and they would also find themselves back in the winning groove after recording a 3-0 victory at the expense of Northallerton Town.

A near perfect performance from Marc Nash's players and a near perfect response in terms of questions surrounding Blue Star's home form of late and after slipping up at Scotswood against Tow Law a fortnight prior, there were no such slip ups at the weekend.

If the first 45 mins of Saturday's performance could be considered as a sparring session between the two teams, the next 45 mins saw Blue Star land the jabs that would eventually land a knockout blow on Northallerton.

Dan Lanning’s second half brace placed he and his teammates in the driving seat and substitute Tolu Osiyemi's late run and finish made sure those involved hit top gear before earning all three points.

Three more points that sees Blue Star sitting in ninth before this evening's trip to Crook Town but a position that could be accelerated with a second successive league win.

With Blue Star possessing at least a game in hand over the eight clubs that sit above them, a win in just a few hours would see ninth in the table quickly converted into fourth.

On the fringes transformed to being in the chasing pack and with such opportunity to change the complexion of the season, it is not one that can be wasted if early ground is to be made up on those above.

As for the hosts, Crook Town come into this game sitting 13th in the table but with games in hand themselves when compared to the top half, their league position is not necessarily a direct correlation to performance and they will be keen to impress later on.

Something which sets up this clash rather nicely indeed. A big thanks to Crook Town for the upcoming hospitality and for those attending from an away perspective, safe travels both there and back.
